Assistance with downloading RGL documents

Most of Republic Gold’s downloadable documents are in the PDF format, and some can be quite large. If you are experiencing difficulties with downloading any of these documents, please check if the following questions and answers address your issue.

If you continue to have trouble after reading these questions and answers, please contact us for further assistance.

Q. I click the link, a blank page appears, and nothing happens for a while. What's happening?

A. Because many of our documents are reasonably large files, it can take quite a while before it appears in your browser window.

For best results, you should right-click the document link (CTRL-click for Mac users) and select the option that allows you to download the link to your hard drive. Downloading the document and saving it also makes it easier if you wish to read it later. (Back to top)

Q. How do I download the document and save it to disk?

A. Most Web browsers will allow you to right-click a link. A menu will appear, with an option that lets you choose to download the link instead of opening it in your web browser. (Back to top)

For Internet Explorer for Windows, you would first right-click the link to the document. A menu appears, where you can choose to 'Save Target As.'

A dialog box will then appear, where you can select a location for the file.

Your version of Windows may look a little different, but the steps are still the same. If you are still unsure, please consult the help files for your browser. (Back to top)

For Macintosh users, you would first right-click the link to the document. If your mouse has only one button, you can also hold down the Control (CTRL) key while clicking the mouse button to make contextual menus appear.

A menu appears: there will be a choice to download the link, although the wording can vary between Web browsers.

A dialog box will then appear, where you can select a location for the file.

If you use Apple Safari, you will not be prompted for a download location. You can open the Downloads window to check on the progress of the document. When it has finished downloading, click the magnifying glass icon beside the file to reveal its location.

Your version of the MacOS may look a little different, but the steps are still the same. If you are still unsure, please consult the help files for your browser. (Back to top)

Q. How do I print just a portion of a document?

A. When you wish to print the document, you can specify which pages should be printed, and your computer will skip the others.

In Windows, this is normally shown with the words "Print Range."

On a Macintosh, the pages to print are normally labeled "From" and "To."

Q. My computer says it does not have the right application to open this file. How can I open it?

A. Most RGL documents are PDF files (Portable Document Format). You would open it with Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Most computers already have a copy of Adobe Reader installed. If you don't have Adobe Reader, it is a free download from the Adobe web site. Once you have the software, you will be able to read the document.

If you use MacOS X, you can use the Preview application to read PDFs. (Back to top)
