Hodgkinson Basin properties

The Hodgkinson Basin lies in Far North Queensland, stretching from the south of Herberton northwards to Cooktown and approximately 150 kilometers inland from the coast. In the opinion of John Kelly and Chris Roberts, the geological setting of the central Hodgkinson Basin is very similar to Central Victoria. Most of the alluvial gold mined in the Hodgkinson Basin is thought to have been sourced from quartz reefs.

Despite the significant quantity of alluvial gold mined in the Hodgkinson Basin, no large hard rock sources of this gold have been found, in contrast to the situation in Central Victoria where the extensive quartz reef deposits in locations such as Bendigo and Ballarat are known to have been the source of the alluvial gold in these locations.

The Hodgkinson Basin has two main goldfields, the Palmer River Goldfield in the northwest and the Hodgkinson Goldfield in the southeast. The Hodgkinson Basin is best remembered for the Palmer River Gold Rush of the 1870’s, when over 1,000,000 ounces of alluvial gold were produced.

The four EPM applications in the portfolio mentioned above that are in the Atric area are in the grant process. The Directors believe that grant should be anticipated within the next 3 to 6 months in accordance with the Queensland Alternative State Provisions grant system. One of these tenements contains a number of prospects, including the Midway and Pillidge areas that have indications of mineralisation, which is adjacent to a series of mining leases containing the Tregoora deposit.

Discussions have been initiated with native title representatives in the area, including the North Queensland Land Council, to obtain Access Agreements. The Company believes that access will be available to its un-granted and recently granted tenements within the timeframe of the exploration budgets.
